I am so glad it’s Friday and I am more than ready for a weekend quilting poolside! Weather report says that’s a go…
To celebrate the upcoming weekend, I thought to kick it off with a quilt book giveaway. I have a jewel of a book on hand that is terrific for both the beginning quilter and those wanting an easy, no-brainer book brimming with colorful patterns that will take no time to stitch up.
x
All you have to do is answer the question below, and I’ll randomly choose a winner this upcoming Monday.
Question: What are your quilting plans this weekend? Are you going to make pet postcards? (That would be a good answer.)
Me? I have absolutely no plans other than to haul my machine out onto my back porch (heat index permitting) to finish a baby quilt and make pet postcards for our Festival Pet Project.
You?
Have a great weekend,
I’m working on a curtain quilt made out of 1980’s bankers bags. Really I have like 30 banker bags starting from then 1980s. I wanted to somehow display the as art. They will soon be a curtain. 🙂
Finish 2 more pet postcards and start on a raffle quilt for my local library.
painting organza to overlay on some pieced fabric for quilted kindle cases
I have started my Christmas sewing… working this weekend on a Nancy Drew quilt for my youngest (27) daughter… she collects the books so I have collected some of the Moda Nancy Drew line to make her a lap quilt!!
I’ve been reading Prayers for Sale, and the main character always has some hand piecing in her pocket to work on wherever she goes. It reminds me of Melanie Testa’s Sewplies purse and that is what I want to do this weekend, work up some freeform patchwork to make into a Sewplies purse! And my dogs think I should also make at least one pet postcard for them.
Finishing a baby quilt for a baby that I hope doesn’t decide to appear too soon and going to an arts fair, where I’ll plan my pet postcards!
Shopping! One of our local quilt stores is having a moving sale 🙂
I am working at the local quilt shop on Saturday. I do hope to finish up a piece that is about halfway quilted. Thanks for the chance to win a book!
Work on my newest coat, i’m combining wet felting, machine-needlefelting , stencilling , quilting.
It’s quite an experiment !
Happy weekend to you! I can tell you that I am going to give “pet postcards” a try I have never done them but I figure I have time to work at learning and then make a few, so we will see how it goes. I am actually looking forward to the new idea….I also have a cuddle quilt to finish and a guild meeting on Saturday morning. So I can definitely say I will be one with my fabric this weekend…yeah!
First priority will be to make one or more pet postcards:^), then I’ll work on a quilted garment for an upcoming presentation.
Other than finishing a pouch I’m taking toiletries in for camping next week, I’m mainly hoping to finish sewing a shirt I’ve been working on for FAR too long. Thank you for the giveaway!
This weekend is going to be spent making a shopping list for our trip to Shipshewanna, Indiana. Once a year we go there and go shopping for fabric at Lollies and Yoders. This Amish area also has lots of shops and great meats, cheeses and popcorn for sale. I need fabric for a 30’s quilt I am working on and a new purse pattern I want to try. Maybe we’ll go see the Quilt Gardens in the area too.
Hi Pokey!
I actually do plan to work on some postcards for the pet rescue project. Have a sweet sheltie who needs to be visually shared with the world beyond his back yard. Hope you will soon be seeing Jack the Amazing Wonder Dog!
Making pet post cards and finishing repairs on a much over loved and washed quilt. He still sleeps with it and is anxious to have it back
Yes, I will actually be making Pet Postcards tomorrow. I have organized a small group of friends for a get together to make postcards to send down to Houston. I’ve already cut all the Peltex we will need, and have printed postcard backs for everyone. Am also making a nice lunch as a special treat for all attending and helping our furry friends in our own quilting way! You should be receiving our completed cards soon! Glad to see you are having a “cold” front in Houston this weekend : )
I have a pile of Doggie Jackets on the sewing table to sew up, several fabric combos on the bed (auditioning for Christmas Place-mat sets) and 3 new McCall patterns on the coffee table that I want to pour over before the weekend it up. However… we are enjoying beautiful temperatures here (in the Great Lakes area), so who wants to be inside?!! This calls for getting up early and staying up late…!
The book looks wonderful. Love the Odessa lap quilt!
The grand daughters have left after being here for a week, I am going to start quilting my latest top which is all penned and ready to go ! No excuses…
This weekend I’m using up scraps by making quilted cosmetic bags. They make good Christmas presents. Enjoy the porch this weekend! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.
Yes,, I made a few last year as well, and I am quilting a baby quilt to enter in our local fair,,, I would lov this book ,,,,,,,back to work
I have a stack of projects on my sewing table and I plan to make some progress on each of them. I’m doing chores like crazy today so I can be free as a bird over the weekend!
We’re in the process of moving house, so my quilt time is filled with small projects, like Christmas wall hangings, nothing too complicated. Just something to reduce the stress of moving!
I’m finishing UFOs!! Feels soooo good! This book looks like a lot of fun!
Working on hexies that I will appliqué on some non-descript curtains hanging in the guest room.
I will be making mug rugs for some ladies I know. Also putting borders on a top. Thank you for the giveaway!
hugs,
Cheri
A knitting class, a dirt track stock car race and make pet postcards – sounds like a great weekend! Now I just hope it’s cooler!
I sent you a batch of post cards a few weeks ago. So I am going to finish my bed quilt, go to the beach with Ally and take her to a Rays game. They are having Bark in the Park and we have our tickets. I did tell her she could not field or chase the ball. And there could be a hot dog in her future..
Going to a quilt exhibition, quilting a bit and, of course, making a pet postcard!
Working on a graduation quilt for a nephew, some hand applique on a project for me (!), and maybe a pet postcard inspired by my kitties!
I am working on a crazy quilt for a new baby in the family. Being in the Houston area , I don’t think I will be sewing outside , however….LOL
Gonna work on a UFO tonight — would LOVE to make it an FO!
I’m holding a Stash Sale at my home – 4 fiber artists – then work (day job) on Sunday – in between, piecing together a mystery quilt and working on a UFO. I would LOVE to make pet postcards, just learned a new technique on photo transfer. Pictures of my kitties!
Traveling to Iowa (from Houston, Texas) to deliver my Daughter to Coe College in Cedar Rapids.
Won’t get much quilting done, but I’ll have more time when I get home to my empty nest :'(
Barbara, you are the randomly selected winner! Please email me at pokey(at)quilts.com so I can get your address! Pokey
I’m quilting one baby quilt and will start piecing a second one – shower gifts for twin baby boys! Ummm…Pokey, it’s August in Houston…I think the heat has already gotten to you if you’re thinking of doing anything outside!! (lol)
This weekend I’m finishing up a quilt which is going to be a gifted to a good friend. I have a few postcards planned already and will be working on them next week.
I’m working on finishing up two charity quilts for “quilting for Calgary” flood relief project. I’m working inside because the weather in Victoria is getting cooler already.
I have a quilt top I’ve been working on for years. It includes ties I inherited from my dad and my father-in-law, plus more recent additions from my son. I already have the wall picked out to hang the finished product…..just need to get to work on it again this weekend.
I am on the porch too on the Cape and will do redwork. Just the thing to carry along.
I am in the midst of working on samples for the Jacksonville QuiltFest which will be happening in just a little over one month….believe me…I would rather be working on postcards!!!
Hi Pokey
I plan to finish piecing the last panel of a mystery jacket that one of my quilt groups
did this year. Since I have extensive garment sewing (everything for weddings to tailoring) our group has a workshop scheduled for September to help our newbie’s to garment sewing with fitting and construction.
I live in the Pittsburgh area and have been involved with the Knit the Bridge project. Installation was last weekend and it will be up on the Andy Warhol bridge until early September. For anyone who loves fiber arts this is a must see. The entire community participated and over 600 panels were completed. For more info go to Knitthebridge.org. I attached a email I just received showing all the panels. My was just done to use up all my acrylic leftover yarn so it is really scrappy.
Jan Higginson
Jan, I just read about the Knit the Bridge project on the Huffington Post! VERY COOL! Congratulations!
I’d love a free quilt book! This weekend I’m hoping to finish up hand quilting a small quilt for my son, whose birthday is next week! (And of course starting on a pet postcard!)
I will not be quilting this weekend BUT I will be fabric shopping for future quilt projects that I have patterns. Also shopping for flannel for receiving blankets and burping pads for my daughter who is expecting her first child in Nov. Elaine

I am working very hard to finish re-organizing my studio. Our temporary long term guest moved out a few months ago and I had to pack everything away to accommodate her. My creativity is in high gear and I am excited about having a nice and neat place to work. This weekend, I am putting the sewing machine up and begin working on making fabric bracelets. This is a new technique for me and I can hardly wait to make my first one. I may even make a few pet post cards!
This week-end I will work on a baby quilt for my great great grand daugther – and for fun I will make some postcard, for my friends.
I’m going to start on my share of a slice quilt. Five friends and I are trying something new – for us. We’re making a quilted banner for the stage of the Big Muddy Folk Festival in Boonville, MO. It will be 6′ high and 18′ long. We’ve sliced a photo of the river (the Missouri) into six sections, which we’ll depict in the changing seasons across the quilt. We’ve got 7 months to pull this off.
Well, now. Pet Postcards sure does sound like a plan to me. In just a short burst of activity I can certainly get some of these done!
Tomorrow I’m going to attend the meeting of a new group of modern quilters. I’m very excited to find out about this group. Then I need to finish the binding on a baby quilt, finish a table runner and my plan is to make some post cards for Houston!! I’ve been working on what I’m going to do since your last post came out. I would LOVE to win this book!!!!
Hello. My name is Janis and I am an addict. I am addicted to English Paper Piecing! Everywhere you look there are hexagons, tumblers and apple core projects. So I will be working on EPP projects this weekend. Come to think of it, a pet postcard made with a hexagon background might be a real eye-“cat”cher.
My weekend plans include a Saturday meeting of my guild’s art quilters, plus doing more quilting on the vintage quilt currently on my long arm. I WAS thinking about making post cards, though, and considering whether my grandson would enjoy receiving one in the mail!
I have a baby quilt to bind and I have a new pattern for a diaper bag, that I need to work on writing up !
I’ll be working on a baby quilt for my first grandchild!
I’ll be going to a monthly wool hand applique class tomorrow!
I will be practicing my free motion quilting, contemplating what to do for the pet postcard project, and trying to figure out how to add quilting to a scrapbook I am working on. My brain is fried!
Hubby, dog, and I are heading to a cabin on a lake in northern Wisconsin for a week of relaxation, swimming, paddle boating, eagle watching, and wine! No room in the car to bring sewing supplies, but I’ve packed colored pencils, graph paper, and books/magazines for inspiration. Would love to add this book to my library … thanks for the chance to win it. Have a wonderful weekend Pokey!
I’m going to put bindings on two quilts. That will reduce my UFO list!
I am going to ice dye and low water immersion dye some fabric on Saturday. I also have a quilt top to put on the longarm to quilt. It has been waiting a long time to have it’s turn.
I am getting inspired walking around AQS show in Grand Rapids. Happy to see my guild’s name as new members to the Modern Quilt Guild today! NW Ohio MQG, woohoo. Enjoy your week-end Pokey.
I will be working on a quilted iPad cover for my sister’s birthday. She loved my funky, collaged and embellished iPad cover when she visited last month.
I will be putting binder of a Quilted Banner Wallhanging for over the church’s Kitchen serving window.
I will be working on an Obi Wan Kenobi costume, not quilting, but sewing. It’s for a good cause. It will be used at events for charity.
I am hoping to finish quilting my baby grandsons quilt.
Just back from 2 days at AQS in Grand Rapids. Highlight was a class with Bill Kerr on designing with color. Anxious to explore my stash in a new way this weekend and maybe try a pet postcard or two featuring my favorite cat, Tux and canine pal, Toggle.
Going to finish off a teacup table runner i’m giving to our community association to raise funds.
This is my weekend to re-organize the sewing room!
No sewing for me this week-end. It’s my hubby’s birthday and I’m making King Ranch Chicken and his requested yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Our son and family will be in from the Dallas area and our daughter and family will be here from the Galveston area. It will be a great family week-end, but we’ll miss our son in LA and I won’t be stitching. I certainly would not be outside stitching in this Houston heat if that were an option. How can you do that, Pokey? Everyone have a great week-end.
I am making some pet beds for the kittys being fostered, by our local group, till they get adopted.
It is a no kill organization..
4 projects going on at once… Finish TAVA ( textile artists of VA) small butterfly painted /wax pastel piece, bind colorful “Grounded “(donation to VA Quilt Museum), design 9 block stretched canvas fabric collage for my beach house and continue to work on “Tulip Fields Forever” ( floyd VA guild challenge piece ) !

This weekend I am going to (finally) give the lap quilt to my SIL for her 50th birthday (which was celebrated only 2 months ago! Eek!) But I know that she will understand knowing that I hand quilt and that takes much longer.
I’m hoping to get a quilt loaded and quilted this weekend – unfortunately, it won’t be one of mine, but at least I’ll be quilting!
I’m pulling out all (ok maybe not all) my UFOs to determine if I can finish a couple for my guilds October quilt show
I plan on finishing up a quilt binding so I can donate it when our guild gets together for the first meeting of the new (fiscal) year.!
No quilting this weekend; starting on Halloween, costumes and décor. 🙂
I’ve only just heard about the Pet Postcards Project. I shall enjoy stitching some of them this weekend. I also have some hand applique to do on my Mandala Quilt (stained glass rose window style). It will definitely be a fun & stitchy weekend.
Going to a Sharon Schamber lecture, then on to the postcards!!
I’m taking the machine to the back deck to finish a modern lap quilt.
This weekend I will be dreaming of quilting on a 14 hour flight to Asia!
I have a baby quilt to finish, also. Plus I was asked yesterday to plan, buy the material, bring my sewing machine, and help some seniors in a retirement home to make a baby quilt for their activities director first grandchild. It has to be simple and straight line sewing. I will precut the pieces. Hmmmmm what should we do?
I am taking a zentangle sewing class today, here in the UK. I have popped some blank postcards in my bag, because I think the technique might work well on postcards (evenm though I have already made 50 to bring to Houston).
Enjoy the pool, Pokey – we’ll soon be counting the days before we leave!
I’m working on my first dolly quilt and loving it. Got to try applique today, love learning a new technique. I’m in sponge mode at the moment, soaking up lots of knowledge and inspiration with regards to quilting 🙂
Working on the next round – 4″ stars – for a orders class I’m taking. If I finish that, I’ve a UFO on tap. Sorry, Pokey, I don’t do outdoors in Houston in August. 🙂
Make that Borders class.
I have to do my office work this weekend. Then cleaning for a visitor. So . . . I’ll probably be quilting in my head this weekend.
I’m working on pillowcases. AND I’m attending our Homecoming parade to see my GD#2 perform.
I’ve been on vacation this week and will be getting back home tonight. Tomorrow I hope to get my sewing room organized and ready to work on a little madras romper for the sweetest one year old fella you’ve ever met. 🙂
Quilting plans this weekend will be to do a little retail therepy at some local quilt shops here in Maine while we are on vacation! Yippee!
We are attending a wedding on Saturday so no quilting, but on Sunday, I will be working on embellished and quilted journal covers that will be in a holiday art sale!
Unfortunately I hurt my back so I am spending the weekend dreaming of quilts I want to make and catching up on all my favorite blogs and shopping for fabrics and patterns for upcoming quilt projects.
I am in the throes of moving my entire ‘creative’ room to a bigger bedroom in myhome as my daughter just left for college and I NEED her bigger room for all my stuff!! If I can get all settled in by Sunday I plan to make a pet postcard and finish a lot of WIPs. Thanks for the opportunity on the book, looks like a good source of inspiration.
Working on a free form Boy quilt. Lots greens brown and of course black. I have to add some color. Hope it works and my grandson loves it.
I just came back from a weaver’s conference where I took a workshop with Anita Mayer on surface design…I have a tub of sweaters that I had cut up and felted in the wash machine..so I am going to play with them and quilt and embellish and use beads and have a blast!!!!!!!!!!!
I am ripping out stitches on a quilt I started machine quilting. I decided I did not like the way it was looking so going a different route!! I should get a new book for a reward! LOL!!! Have fun whatever you are doing! : )
I will be working on quilts for my 8 great nieces and nephews. My goal is to have one made for each of them by Christmas. 2 down, 2 in progress, 4 ready to cut and begin.
My weekend is being spent at our lake house with my sister and neice. Fun times 10! No quilting for me until Monday.
I’m out of town until Sunday. Celebrating my moms birthday. When I get back home I’m going to be working on some pincushion for our modern guild meeting swap. Thank you for this giveaway. This book would help me so much with learning the modern quilts. Thanks again.
I am working on a spiderbeb quilt that I would love to finish the top….But I will do read about the pet post cards.
Hi Pokey,
I’m going to make a pet postcard. I would be thrilled if I won the book!
Thanks,

Quilting all day with my guild friends at our annual Cuddle Quilt (charity event) workshop.
I’m really boring. I am still working on sorting and organizing my fabrics. Would like to work on a quilt I’ve started for my son.
I’m enjoying beach side living…cutting butterflies for a great grand child’s quilt and planning and cutting another baby boy quilt of zany crazy critters…plus, complete two boys tunics for a Bible drama.
I have never made a pet postcard…too busy with grand kids ! Pokey, Thanks for the opportunity to win the book…great timing 🙂
I am embellishing a blouse with ribbon using my 43 Foot from Bernina.
I am celebrating my 44th anniversary this weekend and my pooch is having a holiday at the boarders so I will not be creating my pet postcard until later in the week when my love is back at work.
I need to hit the store before I make my postcard. I am finishing up my staple dress from the class I took on Thursday!
Our Woodcarvers & Quilt Expo wrapped up this past weekend, in 2 weeks it’s the State Fair so this weekend will be a catch up on all the mundane tasks I’ve been putting off. Since AAQI is drawing to a close, maybe I’ll get my little quilt fix by making some pet postcards. I have to get my Raining Cats & Dogs quilt in the post, too.
I need to finish quilting (and get the frame freed up) a quilt for – Gasp – my family! We were like the cobbler’s family whose children had no shoes. I have been so busy quilting for others that I have neglected our “new” house! That is changing NOW. Thanks for the give-away.
This looks like a wonderful book! Thank you for the opportunity to participate. All week-end, I had planned to sew some bags and the easiest chores became time gobblers! So, will catch up around the home today + hope to sew this evening.
I’m still recovering from eye surgery and cannot quilt yet, but I did look at fabric and findings this weekend for future projects!
Of Course, I’m going to make a Pet Postcard this weekend! I am spending my weekend in my studio which I am reorganizing – a great way to stay inside on these hot, West Texas days!
I will be dyeing fabric, making pet postcards, and working on my entry for Quilting Arts Readers Challenge.
I will finish up a bag I made, and putting fabric photos and travel mementos all over the bag.
Thank you.
I am making a multi-media art quilt / good luck charm for a friend who has cancer. And some pet postcards.
Just found your blog (and subscribed). What a great project! (The pet postcards!) Going to take this to my quilting group and see if I can’t get a few more of the animal lovers interested. I’ll be making some myself. Best of luck with this endeavor! (Love MY rescue dawg, Abby, too!!)
Thanks, Sheila. Can’t wait to see your cards!
