I recently was invited to New York City for the weekend, and wanting to keep my mind occupied (more on that in a minute), I couldn’t have picked a a more picture-perfect weekend to go!
x
I took advantage of three beautiful days in the city, starting every day with a run through Central Park…
xx
…where I came across a most ambitious (and strong) dog walker. (That’s 10 dogs she is walking together.)
x
I also visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, spending a somber three hours there. There are no words for this…

On a more cheerful note, I also went to Mood Fabrics of “Project Runway” fame, and I was so overwhelmed by the stacks and stacks of bolts towering over me, I didn’t buy a single thing. I also went to the Museum of Sex because 1) such a museum actually exists, and 2) you never know of you will learn something. 😉
x
And on a G-rated note, I saw my best friend’s little sister perform as Mary Poppins in “Mary Poppins, the Musical.” If you are in the tri-state area in the next couple of months, I highly recommend bringing your family to see this production!

I also spotted someone in Times Square who has gained so much notoriety for playing his guitar in nothing but tighty whities, he recently gained national endorsements from Fruit of the Loom. Yes, I’m talking about the Naked Cowboy. Below we are scheming a pose for a picture.
And here’s my 2014 Christmas card!

That’s a joke by the way! (And if you are wondering if I had any Purell in my purse, I am always packing.)
All in all, a great trip! One of the reasons I was trying to keep my mind occupied for the past few days is I had just made an offer on a property in Northern California, my homeland. Knowing that it could take several days to hear anything back, I was very glad for the Big Apple distraction.
Just a couple days ago I found out my offer was accepted, and I am now back in California for two days to begin the due diligence process. This property isn’t just a place where I can live, but where I can work, too. (Hey, I can’t play and travel forever!)
The zip code? 94558.
Napa Valley.
I hope this works out,
Pokey ….it has been fun traveling with you…..I hope CA works out…..I loved it during 1996-2002….wonderful to live and wonderful to visit….retired in Georgia…….marty in marietta
Thanks for the online travel
Really enjoyed your pictures and views on various areas
You are more courageous than I , I don’t think I could do the 9/11 memorial
The best of luck, happiness, and joy in your new place
And remember to do the following: a new broom to sweep out any past sorrow, a loaf of bread so you never go hungry and a container of salt to keep the witches away
Old Celtic home present usually given the first day in a new house
Sorry can give them in person so the online gift of those wishes for you comes from my heart!!
Enjoy California!!!
I hope that it works out for you, too! The weather’s not too shabby, and you will always be able to find something to drink. All the best!
I am so excited for you Pokey! Congratulations on the new zip code and best wishes for a fun future!
You deserve the very best. Good luck to you.
I’ll keep my fingers and toes crossed! Welcome back!!!
Love you post. You will be living in Wine Country, enjoy.
Really enjoyed your travel pictures. Ahh Napa! You will never lack for wine…or friends;-)
Thank you so much for sharing this very personal part of your life and your travels with all of us. The photos of the 9-11 Memorial were so touching in a small amount that I cannot even begin to imagine three hours within the memorial/museum. It must truly put so many of our own challenges into perspective. And a big congrats on getting the property. Change is never easy but returning to your roots will make all the difference in the world as you begin again with strength, wisdom, and courage from lessons learned and visions imagined anew.
Best of luck in Cali! And Love the Xmas card idea!
Loved the trip to NYC! Leaving Houston for Napa? Hot and muggy for cool weather and wine! Wishing you the very best. I hope you keep pondering!
Pokey, is the Pet Postcard Project on for this year?
Congratulations! And wow! What a great trip you are on! I hope our paths cross again soon!
Much love and best of luck for the closing…
WooHoo! A California Girl again! Can’t wait to hear about your new endeavor!
I love following your travel and newsy posts. So happy for you in choosing Napa! Loved visiting there with friends for 20 years in a row. Definitely miss that part of CA after living in El Dorado Hills (Sierra Foothills) between Sacramento and Tahoe for 25 years. Now retired in Cary, NC and loving it. Enjoy your new location and home!
Hi Pokey,
I am always touched in someway by your blog. Thank you for sharing the NYC events. Dave and I were in Nappa on a bike tour during 9.11.2001 with no radio and no tv. So we missed the images until the 1 yr annv.. The firetruck is haunting. My dear friend and ex-neighbor lives in Santa Rosa–95409. She moved there last June.
And I am off to Chicago on Wednesday, thanks to you. Thank you for setting me up for the IQF show. I am taking wonderful watercolory samples of Itajime and will demo four time slots. Wish you could be there!! Best of Luck with Nappa.
Wow! You had a whirlwind of experiences in NYC! So good to travel the world and be open to new experiences! Very excited about your new home in California. Wine country! You lucky gal! I’ve always dreamed of touring that area. I can’t wait to see where you are headed next! Enjoy! You are definitely doing the “Be Receptive. Go Radiate” thing! Love it!
